Top Daily Habits to Optimize your Life

Image
Changing our habits is difficult to do since it requires a lot of discipline and thinking outside the box. We often believe there is nothing wrong with us so why change. However, I always believe there is room for improvement. We do not need to bombard ourselves with changing everything at once, so little baby steps is the way to go. Small daily improvements even if its 1% better every day will produce game changing results over time.  Here is what many of the mentors I follow recommend in their daily routines: Get up Early Oh yes the idea of not sleeping in can send shivers down people's spines. However, the first hour of your morning sets the tone for the rest of the day affecting your mindset and productivity. Early rising can allow you to do the tasks that you are not able to do during your busy work day. It has been well documented that many of the most successful people are early risers. My alarm is set for 5am. Meditation When we do get up early and still sleepy, it i...

Wealth and Mindfulness

Image
Poor Mindset A fairly large part of society focuses heavily on materialism. They love to spend their money on consumer goods and gravitate toward external pleasure. This consumption will give the poor mindset the belief that by buying new purses, shoes, cars and so forth brings more happiness. The poor mindset also believe in the idea of working hard for their money. They prefer to remain in safe jobs which give them a consistent paycheck since it feels more comfortable. With that consistent paycheck, the perception becomes fearful of saving for the long term and the focus towards short-term spending habits. It really is all about instant gratification; that way you buy as much as possible quickly enough to keep up with trends and social status. Wealthy Mindset The wealthy or rich way of thinking makes up a smaller part of society. This philosophy believes money should work for the individual instead of slaving to work for money. This mindset's more positive traits include: high f...

Wise Mind versus Reasonable and Emotional Mind

Image
Our Emotional Mind Are you focused on your emotions? Do you have a hard time taking your mind off of assignments or daily responsibilities? Do you strive for urgency in your tasks and look for immediate rewards? Do you have a hard time wanting anyone to disagree with you? These are some of the symptoms of having an emotional mind. In this situation, people focus strongly on their emotions and not much thought of reasoning. It allows people to be in touch with their feelings but sometimes they act impulsively. Emotional mind behaves in regard to whatever makes it feel better in the present moment without much thought on the actions and decisions which affect the future. This way of thinking is not strategic or goal oriented. Our Reasonable Mind Do you push aside your feelings as unimportant? Do you ignore your intuition or as some call your gut feeling? Are you completely unaware of other people's feelings and get frustrated dealing with your own emotions? Are you lacking in feeli...

Gossip Ruins the Soul

Image
Slander in Society Gossip is basically everywhere. It congregates in families, friendships, workplaces and in schools. It has been an acceptable practice in our lives as far back as biblical times. We barely even notice that gossip is there and so it conveniently gets a free pass in society as a normal part of daily conversation. It has even been an integral part of what makes popular reality TV shows and Soap Operas which is what makes them so addictive. However, the reality is that gossip or slander is a destructive force. It leads to broken marriages, friendships, and damaged communities. Slander becomes a major part of modern lawsuits, whether it be corporations feuding within its employees or celebrities suing publication magazines. So we need to take notice before it does harm to our self. Corruption of the Self Think about how you feel when someone talks negatively of you. This corruption on our soul leads to bad mental health and in some extreme cases even suicide. Gossip...

Practice Self-Compassion

Loving thyself  Having love, compassion and kindness for yourself seemed very odd when I first heard it. I mean I know to love, be kind and compassionate to others. I was taught that at an early age and try to do it to the best of my ability in these modern times. Sometimes I would hear "give yourself a hug" or a "pat on the back" growing up but I would never put much emphasis on it. In reality self kindness and love is extremely important since we spend a lot of our time creating judgement for everything we do. We often make very harsh statements about ourselves like demeaning our intelligence by saying how stupid we are or attacking our physical body's imperfections. Instead, I feel it would be more beneficial to say "its ok I made that mistake, I am not stupid and I am learning to improve everyday." This positive thinking can help alleviate suffering and bring us that warm comfort in our lives. Avoiding Isolation Imagine how one feels after long p...

Sharpen your Emotional Intelligence

Image
Describing Emotional Intelligence  I've always had a lack of understanding of what Emotional Intelligence is. My first impression is that its somehow connected to how smart you are. On the contrary, it is defined as the ability to identify and manage your emotions and those of other people. We do this by using empathy with our friends, family and colleagues. Also with our own emotions we are then able to regulate our feelings better and solve problems more effectively.  Children have a higher difficulty dealing with their emotions. They are not given the opportunity to value the emotions that they feel. Boys for instance as I was growing up were taught not to cry for fear of ridicule. Boys were told just bury it deep and be strong. This insecurity of who we are in the eyes of others will then hinder our emotional intelligence which leads to bullying and judgement. Imagine a world where emotional intelligence could be taught in modern schools. I am pretty sure kids would be hap...

Activate our Awareness

Getting caught in the wave We as human beings can be stressed out on a daily basis. The world today moves so quickly especially with digitalization being front and center. We get caught up in the wave or as we sometimes call the daily grind which moves so fast that we cannot be in the moment. Weeks and months continue along and everything is the same. So how do we deal with all the confusion? What's the purpose of us just marching along with how society functions. Does it bring us real happiness? This frustration that we feel will manifest itself further unless we look into our minds to understand it better. We should be able to calm ourselves through meditation but it takes a lot of practice. We are always confronted with the craziness of our minds or as some call the "Monkey mind". Monkey Mind The idea of Monkey Mind is a Buddhist term which means "unsettled, indecisive or uncontrollable". Many of us have this scattered mind which creates negative ideas towar...
