Karma. Cause and Effect

Image

A more simple way to look at is we go to work, we get paid. We go to school, we learn something. When we exercise or eat nutritious food, we get healthy. In Buddhism, it is taught that fate is not arbitrary. This simply put means that whatever happens in life does not occur randomly but more for a reason. Supernatural forces do not have a stranglehold on our lives; we are in full control of our own destiny. The idea of cause and effect is not always available to our awareness. We often judge that life is unfair. I know I have thought this way and many of you reading this can attest to the same notion. We have often pondered questions through ou...

Discover Mind Body Connection

Image
Image by Mohamed Nohassi   Emotional and Physical state We have all been in a place where we feel tired, anxious, sick or just plain not feeling well. We wish we could have just a little more energy to accomplish everything we needed to do today and beyond. Well the connection between the mind and body holds keys to those answers. We can no longer ignore the influence that the mind has on the body's functioning and we need to take a closer look at it. Our physical well being has an unbelievably close connection to our emotional state. The mind body connection has close ties to a person's thoughts, attitude, behaviours and physical health. There was not a lot of research done in the past of how the mind connects with the body. However, now in the areas of neuroscience there are new breakthroughs in research debunking those old theories th...

Win at the Game of Life, Overcome Challenges

Image
Photo by GR stocks   All Obstacles in my Way How do we overcome the constant challenges that come along our life's path? We usually focus on what we can do instead of what we cannot do. We all face obstacles in our lives whether it's a difficult job, intense relationship or ambitious life goals. We face a choice; we either let the challenge overcome us or we find a way to overcome the challenge. There are many people that have disabilities like having only one arm, leg or even not being able to walk at all but they still find ways to muster the courage to navigate through life and perform the same tasks as anyone else. So what's our excuse? It is the sense of mindset that drives us to the task's completion or not. The majority of the world are not willing to do the work that the highly successful...

Focus on Minimalism, Declutter your Mind

Image
Photo by Alex Lvrs   External Pursuits Do we really need expensive things, go on lavish vacations and pursue extravagant pleasures to be happy. If you feel this way and it works for you then all the power to you, no judgement. However, these sort of goals may not lead to full satisfaction in the long run. These external pursuits may lead to us just wanting more in a never ending cycle and exhausting all our energy doing so. There has been a wave of the Minimalist lifestyle increasing in popularity where many people get rid of unnecessary clutter and junk in their lives. So how do we develop this Minimalist mindset? Minimalist Mindset The Minimalist view can be functional in taking care of our overall well-being. Is it possible to be wealthy without breaking the bank? It all comes dow...

Elevate your Life Journey

Image by Slav Romanov Focusing our Life Targets It is my upmost belief that in order to have a clear picture of what we are going after in life we need to have a wildly important target. We are goal driven beings and these objectives that we strive for which will always be challenging are essential to our growth. We need an absolute YES to an important goal. This YES allows us to avoid the constant distractions which get in our way daily. We can have negative goals creep into our lives very easily. This is why having awareness is the key to giving us the ability to ask ourselves the question of "Is this goal really serving me?" Sometimes we don't realize that what we do is actually hindering our lifestyle which then bri...

Empathy vs Projection

Image
Image by Josh Calabrese The Projective Lens The term projection is not something used very often in everyday conversation. It is common in phycology where its used to understand how humans view the world around them. Think of it as a camera or projector running in our heads. Whatever we project on the screen of our mind through our eyes is perceived in the world around us.   This camera is always running which our minds has saved in its files all of our beliefs, values and morals. What we see on the world especially towards other people is a reflection of those beliefs, values and morals that we have. Moreover, what we see inwardly determines what we see on the outside. For example, if I do not like or love who I am as a person then I would not be able  to easily like or...

Setting Boundaries

Image
There is sometimes this sense of obligation we feel to help others, especially the ones that are close to us like family and friends. However, we have to realize that being a people pleaser can get us into trouble with our internal selves. In my view it is important to set boundaries so we can strip away the guilt we sometimes feel towards pleasing other people and thus create healthier relationships.  Establishing Limits Boundaries are the limits we set with ourselves around what we will or will not tolerate from other people. The trouble is we usually have not clearly defined what those limits are so then that causes others to continually cross those lines. In the end we are the ones who then become emotionally distraught by the lack of action we should be taking to set those boundaries. The snow ball effect starts to take root where we over commit to helping others with their needs. Those commitments turn into a compounding weight on our shoulders because we don't always h...
