Elevate your Life Journey

Image by Slav Romanov Focusing our Life Targets It is my upmost belief that in order to have a clear picture of what we are going after in life we need to have a wildly important target. We are goal driven beings and these objectives that we strive for which will always be challenging are essential to our growth. We need an absolute YES to an important goal. This YES allows us to avoid the constant distractions which get in our way daily. We can have negative goals creep into our lives very easily. This is why having awareness is the key to giving us the ability to ask ourselves the question of "Is this goal really serving me?" Sometimes we don't realize that what we do is actually hindering our lifestyle which then bri...

Empathy vs Projection

Image
Image by Josh Calabrese The Projective Lens The term projection is not something used very often in everyday conversation. It is common in phycology where its used to understand how humans view the world around them. Think of it as a camera or projector running in our heads. Whatever we project on the screen of our mind through our eyes is perceived in the world around us.   This camera is always running which our minds has saved in its files all of our beliefs, values and morals. What we see on the world especially towards other people is a reflection of those beliefs, values and morals that we have. Moreover, what we see inwardly determines what we see on the outside. For example, if I do not like or love who I am as a person then I would not be able  to easily like or...

Setting Boundaries

Image
There is sometimes this sense of obligation we feel to help others, especially the ones that are close to us like family and friends. However, we have to realize that being a people pleaser can get us into trouble with our internal selves. In my view it is important to set boundaries so we can strip away the guilt we sometimes feel towards pleasing other people and thus create healthier relationships.  Establishing Limits Boundaries are the limits we set with ourselves around what we will or will not tolerate from other people. The trouble is we usually have not clearly defined what those limits are so then that causes others to continually cross those lines. In the end we are the ones who then become emotionally distraught by the lack of action we should be taking to set those boundaries. The snow ball effect starts to take root where we over commit to helping others with their needs. Those commitments turn into a compounding weight on our shoulders because we don't always h...

Conquering Fear of Procrastination

Image
Dragging one's feet Why do we procrastinate? Why do we put ourselves through the idea of prolonging to do important tasks or goals in life even in some cases to the last minute. I know I've suffered from this and many who read this can agree they have done the same. We may actually be doing this on purpose just to blame the action at hand instead of ourselves and this refers to self-handicapping.  Self-Handicapping  Have you ever had an important task coming up and right before you decided to do something else causing detriment to that assignment? Perfect example would be you have an exam tomorrow and instead decide it would be more fun to play video games. This concept describes the action of creating an artificial handicap so that the given task is not indicative of one's ability. Basically a person will create a strategy to avoid effort in hopes that any potential failure will not hurt their self-esteem.  In a nutshell, rather than you admitting your lack of abi...

Ignore the Internet Trolls

Image
Hiding behind a Screen Critics seem like frustrated dreamers  Online criticism is quite rampant these days. You can ask almost anyone who's fallen victim to it. That troll or online critic loves throwing out their negative statements at the world while sitting comfortably in their reclining chair at home. These comments do hit us at our core since our minds start to ponder whether what is said is true or not. Allowing it to offend you means deep down that you harbour the emotions to its truth. Our insecurities can come alive by just a tiny poke to our egos.  It becomes so easy to get offended. We can send out a picture on social media and get tons of likes all day. Those likes or positive thoughts create such a rush of dopamine to our brains and make us feel great and on top of the world. However, even though that same picture produced over a hundred positive comments it only takes that one negative thought to get us down really quickly. Online criticism is inevitable if we pu...

Recreate your Identity

Image
Defining Ourselves As a New Year goes rolling by I always come across people's new resolutions of who they want to be. It could mean losing weight, starting a new career or finding that special someone. These resolutions are meant to redefine who we are as human beings. Sticking by those new goals for the new year can be quite the challenge. We all identify ourselves in different ways. Some people identify as being very shy and reserved while others feel they are the life of the party. Some people identify as being good with their hands at their job while others are brilliant behind the computer. This really comes down to how we feel about our core beliefs and how those beliefs govern how we think, deal with our emotions, interact with people, etc. Our beliefs give us what we feel certain of and will help dictate our behaviours. Our behaviours can be positive or negative and they have a direct impact on how we function as human beings. An example is you can either believe you hav...

Own your mistakes

Image
Nobody is Perfect As the Christmas holidays roll around it reminds me of the New Year's resolutions which many people start to think about and then share with others. Last year wasn't so great but next year will be better if I follow these new ideas is usually what people say. However, it's been well documented that the majority of people will break those new promises and stick to their old agendas. People are not perfect, including myself which my spouse can attest to. We will make mistakes on a regular basis. Is this a terrible thing? Well it all depends how you want to look at it. I think that mistakes and the failures that we often go through can teach us valuable lessons. Those lessens can help us recognize where our flaws are and learning to polish them out. This can then interrupt the vicious past cycle. Cut Ties with your Past When we do not take ownership with our past mistakes we are making it very clear that these errors will keep happening repeatedly. We then ...
