Achieving Greatness: Why Not Me

Have you ever looked at someone successful and thought, “Wow, they’re amazing… but I could never do that.”?

Well, why not? 🤔

Maybe we have become experts at putting other people on pedestals while quietly putting ourselves in the dark basement! 🏠😂 We see someone achieve amazing things and assume they must have been born with some secret superpower that we somehow missed.

But here’s the truth: greatness isn't reserved for a special club.

🌱 Why Not You?

Greatness doesn't necessarily mean becoming famous, super rich, or changing the entire world. It can mean becoming the best version of yourself. It can mean overcoming something difficult, developing your natural talents, helping others, or simply having the courage to pursue something meaningful.

The Stoic philosopher Epictetus reminded us:

“First say to yourself what you would be; and then do what you have to do.”

That quote is so important because it puts the starting point inside us. Before we accomplish something, we have to believe that it is possible.

So ask yourself: Why not me?

Why can't you learn something new? Why can't you start that project? Why can't you improve your well being, relationships, mindset, creativity, or confidence?

You don't need to have everything figured out immediately. You just need to take the next step. 👣

🔥 Greatness Begins With Small Actions

We sometimes imagine greatness as one giant moment: standing on a stage, receiving an award, climbing a high mountain, or having thousands of people giving you a standing ovation.

But real greatness is often much less glamorous.

It might look like getting out of bed when you don't feel motivated and tired. It might mean practicing when nobody is watching. It might mean trying again after failing.

Marcus Aurelius wrote:

“The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way.” In other words, obstacles don't automatically mean “stop.” Sometimes they are just part of the journey.

That annoying setback? It might be teaching you persistence.

That mistake? It might be teaching you wisdom.

That rejection? It might be pointing you in a different direction.

And yes, sometimes the obstacle is simply wrestling the alarm clock. ⏰😂 But even then, getting up is progress!

🧠 Stop Comparing Your Chapter One

One of the biggest barriers to greatness is comparison.

You see someone else's finished product while you're looking at your unfinished draft.

Instead of saying, “I'll never be as good as them,” try saying, “What can I learn from them?”

Seneca said:

“Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.”

Be prepared. Learn. Experiment. Maybe fail. Adjust. Keep going.

You don't have to become someone else. Your version of greatness will look different from everyone else's.

🌟 So… Why Not You?

Maybe you're simply waiting for permission to believe you can do something meaningful.

So consider this your reminder:

Why not you?

You have own ideas. You have experiences. You may have abilities you haven't fully discovered yet. You have another day in front of you.

You don't need to be extraordinary today.

You simply need to start.

Because greatness isn't about being better than everyone else. It's about becoming better than the version of you were yesterday. 🚀

So take that first step, embrace the journey, and remember: the question isn't “Who am I to achieve greatness?” The question is “Why not me?”

And really, why not everyone? 🌎✨
