Just sleep on it

“Dreams are excursions into the limbo of things.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson
There’s a reason people have been saying “just sleep on it” for centuries. It’s not just old-school advice from your grandmother while she hands you tea and tells you one of her famous superstitious advice. ๐ It turns out that sleep — and especially dreaming — might be one of the most underrated life coaches we have.
We live in a world obsessed with fast answers. We want instant results, instant messages, instant noodles, and somehow… instant wisdom. But the human mind doesn’t always perform like a microwave. Sometimes it works more like a slow cooker. ๐ฒ And sleep is where the magic simmers away at a delicate pace.
During the day, our conscious mind is busy juggling responsibilities, all of our worries, social media scrolling, and trying to remember why we wanted to retrieve from the kitchen in the first place. ๐ค Our thoughts become noisy and full of clutter. But when we sleep, the conscious mind relaxes its tight grip, allowing the deeper parts of ourselves to inch forward.
That’s where dreams enter the chat. ๐
Dreams can feel weird, hilarious at times, emotional, and sometimes completely random. One minute you’re flying through the sky on a magic carpet, and the next you’re being chased by a giant Emoji wearing roller skates. ๐ผ Yet beneath the weirdness, dreams often carry powerful emotional truths and insights.
The famous psychologist Carl Jung once said, “Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.” That quote hits differently when you realize our dreams may actually help us process emotions, solve complex problems at 3am, and navigate life’s difficult questions.

Have you ever gone to bed totally stressed about something and woken up with unexpected clarity? That eurika moment is not an accident. Science has shown that your brain continues working while you sleep, organizing memories, emotions, and experiences like a bedtime cleaning crew for your soul. ๐งน✨
Even history is filled with stories of breakthroughs happening through dreams. The chemist August Kekulรฉ reportedly discovered the structure of the benzene molecule after dreaming of a snake biting its own tail. Imagine waking up from a dream and accidentally changing science forever before your breakfast omelette? Meanwhile, most of us wake up wondering if we still have time for coffee. ☕๐
We can detach ourselves from emotional overload by getting enough sleep. Issues that appear insurmountable at 11 p.m. become more manageable in the morning. It’s almost like the mind whispers, “Relax, buddy. Once more, you were catastrophizing.
Let's face it, our waking minds may be a little dramatic at times. Conscious minds have a tendency to overanalyze things. We relive discussions, foresee disasters that never materialize, and persuade ourselves that a single unpleasant incident from 2020 destroyed our reputation. ๐
We can avoid some of that mental clutter when we dream. It allows the subconscious to express itself through feelings, symbols, and unexpected connections. For this reason, journaling about dreams can be a useful technique for self-awareness and personal development.
This does not imply that all dreams are magical prophecies, though. The cosmos might not be sending you a sacred message if you dream about riding a unicorn through a mall and fighting Disney characters. However, even strange dreams can creatively represent stress, desires, anxieties, or unresolved emotions.
The philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson once wrote, “Dreams are excursions into the limbo of things.” Beautiful words — and honestly, probably the fanciest way anyone has ever described falling asleep during Netflix. ๐
So the next time life throws you a tough decision, maybe don’t rush the answer. Pause. Breathe. Rest easy. Then sleep on it. Your conscious mind might need a timeout so your deeper wisdom can finally get a word in.
Sometimes the answers we seek aren’t found by thinking harder… but by surrendering quietly enough to listen inward. ๐
