"Either you run the day or the day runs you."

Jim Rohn

Ever notice how some days feel like you’re confidently driving the bus of life… and other days you’re tied up in the luggage compartment while the bus keeps hitting speed bumps? πŸ˜„ Jim Rohn nailed it with this classic reminder: *“Either you run the day or the day runs you.”* It’s short and to the point, and just uncomfortable enough to make us look at how we actually spend our time.

Running the day doesn’t mean waking up at 4 a.m., drinking green sludge, and bench lifting your to do list πŸ’ͺπŸ₯¬. I actually wait till 5am to get up. It simply means choosing intention over reaction. As Stephen Covey put it, “The key is not to prioritize what’s on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities.” Translation: check your mindset before you check your phone πŸ“±.

When we don’t run the day, the day unfortunately runs us. Emails multiply like rabbits πŸ‡, notifications ping like slot machines, and suddenly it’s 9 p.m. and we’re wondering where the day went and how much time was wasted. Benjamin Franklin warned us long ago: “You may delay, but time will not.” Darn. Still true.

Running the day starts with something simple: decide who you’re going to be before the world decides for you. Marcus Aurelius said, “At dawn, when you have trouble getting out of bed, tell yourself: I have to go to work—as a human being.” In other words, show up on purpose. Even a loose plan beats no plan at all. A compass works even if you don’t know every turn of the needle. 🧭.

And let’s be clear—it is not about aiming for perfection. Some days you’ll nail it. Other days you’ll burn your coffee, forget your password, and spill breakfast on the floor πŸ˜…. That’s okay. As Jim Rohn also said, “Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines practiced every day.” Small choices. Daily reps. No superhero cape and mask required.

When you run the day, confidence will grow. Momentum builds. You stop feeling like life is happening TO you and start feeling like life is happening FOR you. Or as Wayne Dyer wisely put it, “How people treat you is their karma; how you react is yours.” That’s real power.

So tomorrow morning, look in the mirror and ask yourself one question: Who’s in charge today—me or my excuses? Set one clear intention. Take one focused action. Then repeat the next day. Before you know it, you’re not chasing the day anymore—you’re leading it πŸš€.
