Success through Mindset

"Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and right doing there is a field. I’ll meet you there."
Rumi
What a quote, right? It’s like Rumi sent us all a mysterious poetic postcard from the cosmos and said, “Hey, scrap all the drama, pack some delicious snacks, and meet me in this relaxing, judgment-free garden.” And honestly? We wouldn't want to go there?
Unpack the Quote
To begin with, Rumi isn't referring to a real field (pardon me, picnic lovers). He is referring to a metaphorical realm that exists beyond our binary perceptions of reality. Morality and consequences are not disregarded there. We remove our Team Right and Team Wrong jerseys and just be there. Consider it the soul's Nirvana. Calm, and neutral.
In everyday life, we spend so much of our energy deciding who’s right and who’s wrong. That guy who cut you off in traffic? Wrong. The person who doesn't like your political party? Highly debatable. We’re constantly sorting the world into moral filing cabinets: Good, Bad, and the occasional Meh.😒
Out Beyond Right and Wrong
However, Rumi is saying: *Let's leave the mental courtroom.* One can relate to one another in a different way that isn't dependent on being right, better, or morally perfect. Spoiler alert: You don't have to be the moral weight of the universe or win every debate. Thank goodness for that!
Think of this "field" as a vast grassy plain filled with smiles, laughing, and comfy hammocks. People go there to understand rather than to respond with a 29-point argument. Nobody is keeping score here. No scoreboard is present. Just being human—messy, complex, and hopefully still lovable—is more than acceptable.
This is where empathy goes to hang out. This is where connection will thrive. This is where we stop needing to fix people and just start seeing them for who they are.
It’s also where humor sneaks in. Because let’s face it: once you step out of your “I must be right at whatever cost” stance, the world becomes a whole lot funnier and lighter. You realize how silly some of your self-righteous mountains 🏔️really are. (Remember when you fought with your spouse over how to load the dishwasher “correctly”? Yeah. Rumi’s field is the place where you just laugh about that.)
Final Thoughts
So, the next time you’re about to jump into a heated debate about politics, parenting styles, or whether house cleaning should be treated like an Olympic sport. Picture that field. 📷 Ask yourself: Is this argument really necessary? Or could I meet them somewhere in the middle—out in the 🌼garden 🍀where all labels fall off and humanity begins?
Let’s not always push to be RIGHT. Let’s decide to be REAL. Rumi’s waiting for us there. Probably with a blanket and some really great poetry. Bring your favorite snacks.
