"Always go with your passions. Never ask yourself if it’s realistic or not.”
Deepak Chopra
Follow Your Passion, Even If It’s Wearing a Cape and Riding a Unicorn
You know that little voice in your head that whispers, “Hey, wouldn’t it be awesome to quit your job and open a bakery that only sells Star Wars-themed cupcakes?” Yeah, that one. Most of us laugh it off, sip our coffee, and go back to our Excel spreadsheets. But Deepak Chopra—author, spiritual guru, and all-around “follow-your-heart” advocate—would tell you to throw that spreadsheet into the trash and chase that cupcake dream like your life depends on it.
He once said, “Always go with your passions. Never ask yourself if it’s realistic or not.” And honestly, there’s something wildly refreshing about that advice in a world where we constantly calculate every element of risk and whether our dreams have a one, five or ten year plan.

Realism Is So Last Season
To be clear, "realistic" is just a code phrase meaning "please conform immediately." It's what kindhearted individuals say when they care for you yet believe you may be going through a phase. Passion, on the other hand, is erratic, vibrant, and lacks common sense. It doesn't give a damn about what your uncle thinks about job security or market trends.
Following your passion ignores the notion that your life must fit into a neat little box marked "reasonable," rather than merely pursuing a purpose. And that's when the magic starts, my friends.
Spoiler Alert: Passion Has No GPS
Following your passion is kind of like going on a road trip with no map, some questionable snacks, and a soundtrack that includes way too much new age music. But here’s the thing: even if you don’t have no idea where you’re going, you’re still going. And that’s more than most people can say.
Sure, you might make some pit stops in “Why-did-I-do-this-town” or “I’m-broke-and-eating-instant-noodles city,” but you’ll also pass through some pretty awesome stops along the way. It’s a wild ride. But at least it’s your ride.
What’s the Worst That Could Happen?
Okay, okay. Maybe you're thinking: But what if I fail? What if I look ridiculous? What if my dream isn’t actually “do-able and just a niche”?
Let me stop you right there. The worst that could happen is you end up with a great story. Maybe even a better version of yourself—one who dared greatly and came out stronger, weirder, and definitely more interesting. That sounds like a win to me.
And let’s be honest—half the stuff we think is “realistic” doesn’t work out anyway. You might as well fail doing something you love than succeed doing something that slowly turns you into a sentimental life real.
Passion Is Contagious (In a Good Way)
The exciting aspect is that when you pursue your passions without seeking approval from the logic police, you allow others to follow suit. You become radiant. People pay attention. Then all of a sudden, a whole chain reaction of unrealistic dream-chasing starts.
Therefore, pursue your love, be it painting abstract butterflies, teaching skydiving full-time, or launching a podcast about competitive parkour. Don't wait for someone to tell you it's a good idea or for the stars to align just right.
As Chopra said, never ask if it’s realistic. Ask if it makes your soul do a happy dance. If it does, that’s all the realism you need.
