Be a Creator, Not a Victim

Take Charge of Your Life Like a Boss
Have you ever seen someone who always seemed to be followed by a black cloud? They sigh as if they've just finished a marathon when you ask how they're doing, but we all know that their only running has been for their responsibilities "I never succeed at anything," they complain. "The Universe is against me."
Another individual, dealing with the same difficulties, shrugs, jokes, and begins resolving the issue. As your other friend is drowning in complaints, you gaze at them in astonishment and wonder how they maintain their optimism.
The difference? One is a creator, and the other is a victim.

The Great Divide: Victims vs. Creators
Before we get too deep, let’s clarify what we’re talking about.
A victim mindset isn’t about actually being a victim of a crime or injustice—it’s a mentality where someone believes life is happening to them, not because of them. It’s the “Why me?” approach to life.
A creator mindset, on the other hand, is all about taking charge of your life. Creators don’t wait for circumstances to improve; they actually create opportunities, solutions, and, most importantly, the right mindset that works for them rather than against them.
And here’s the best part: The moment you decide to stop playing the victim and start acting like a creator, your entire world starts to change. I can tell you this from experience!
Step 1: Own Your Life Like a CEO
Imagine if a CEO ran a company the way some people run their lives:
“Sales are down? Oh well, guess we’ll just hope things get better.”
“We got crushed by our competitors? Life is so unfair! Nothing ever works out for us.”
“Employees are not motivated? Let’s sit in the lunch room and complain.”
Sounds ridiculous, right? No successful business runs like that. Yet, so many people run their personal lives the same way!
Being a creator means acting like the CEO of You, Inc. That means:
Taking full responsibility for where you are right now (yep, even the not-so-great parts).
Focusing on solutions, not just problems.
Understanding that you are in control of more than you think.
When you think like a CEO, you stop waiting for someone else to save you and fix things. You start building the life you actually want.
Step 2: Ditch the Blame Game
If blaming others was an Olympic sport, some people would have gold medals. The boss, the government, the economy, your childhood, the weather—there’s always someone or something to blame for why life isn’t going the way we want.
But let’s be honest: Complaining might feel good for a moment and allow us to vent our feelings, but does it ever actually fix anything? Spoiler alert: It doesn't.
Creators don’t waste time pointing fingers. Instead, they ask:
✔ “What’s the next step I can take to solve this?”
✔ “How can I learn from this situation?”
✔ “What’s within my control right now?”
This shift is a game-changer. Suddenly, you go from helpless to powerful—just by changing your focus.
Step 3: Flip “Why Me?” Into “Try Me!”
Ever notice how successful people seem to love challenges? It’s not that they enjoy struggling, but they know that challenges = growth.
Creators look at obstacles the way fitness enthusiasts look at weights in the gym: something to lift, push, and use to get stronger.
So instead of saying, “Why is this happening to me?” start saying, “Try me!”
Got rejected? Try me! I’ll find a better opportunity.
Failed an exam? Try me! I’ll study harder and ace the next one.
Business failed? Try me! I’ll learn from my mistakes and come back stronger.
Life is always going to throw curveballs. However you get to choose if you’re the batter who swings for the fences or the one who just stands there, hoping for a walk to the next base.
Step 4: Focus on What You Can Do
Picture this: You’re stuck in traffic. You can honk, curse, and vent in frustration ๐ก—or you can listen to an audiobook, some music, call a friend (hands on the wheel, of course), or enjoy some quality thinking time.
Same situation. Two totally different experiences.
Creators focus on what they can control, while victims get stuck on what they can’t.
If you’re just waiting for life to be perfect before you take action, you’ll be waiting a long time. Start now with what you have, where you are. Don't choose tomorrow, start today.
Step 5: Take Action (Even if It's Messy)
If you are a perfectionist, cover your eyes on this one: Taking messy action is better than waiting for perfect conditions.
Want to write a book? Start with one less than perfect page.
Want to get in shape? Go for a 15-minute walk.
Want to start a business? Sell one thing and learn if it works.
Creators take action before the need to feel ready. Victims wait for the stars to align just right (which, let’s be honest, never happens).
Step 6: Surround Yourself with Other Creators
You ever notice how being around complainers makes you want to start complaining? Misery loves company—but so does success.
Hang out with creators, and you’ll naturally start thinking, acting, and winning like one. We become who we spend the most time with.
Join groups, listen to uplifting podcasts like mine ๐, read books of inspiration—fill your world with people who remind you that you’re in control.
Step 7: Laugh a Little (Seriously)
Look, life is weird. It’s unpredictable. And sometimes, it’s just ridiculously absurd.
Learn to laugh when things go the wrong way. Spilled coffee on your shirt before a meeting? It's just a stain, it happens. Forgot someone’s name five seconds after they told you? Nickname them "Champ" and move on.
Remember that taking things seriously is important. Taking yourself too seriously? Not so great.
Ready to Create Your Life?
You don’t need anyone’s permission to step into a creator mindset. You just need to decide, at this moment, that you’re done waiting, done with blaming, and done hoping someone else will fix for you.
Life isn’t happening to you—it’s happening because of you.
