"When you can understand and name your emotions, something magical happens. The mere fact of acknowledgement creates the ability to shift. When we don't have the words for our feelings, we're not just lacking descriptive flourish. We're lacking authorship of our own lives."

Above quote taken from the book Permission to Feel page 119 by author Marc Bracket, PH.D

This quote highlights how acknowledging and expressing one's feelings can have a transforming effect. A significant change takes place inside of us as we recognize and categorize our emotions. The first step toward empowerment and self-awareness is acknowledging one's feelings. We regain a sense of agency and control over our emotional experiences when we are able to identify our feelings. It's about taking charge of our inner feelings, not merely using expressive language.

It can be said that the lack of words to express our feelings is a constraint that goes beyond language complexity. We are portrayed as lacking agency in our own lives when we lack the language to describe and understand the emotional terrain that shapes our life. This suggests that telling our own stories and figuring out the intricacies of our inner lives depend heavily on our capacity to express our feelings. The quotation essentially highlights the close relationship that exists between emotional literacy, self-authorship, and the possibility of positive life transformation.
