"Will it take a worldwide calamity, a disaster of gargantuan proportions, as some have suggested? Must the Earth tilt on its axis, be hit by a meteor, swallow its continents whole, before its people will listen? Must we be visited by beings from outer space and scared out of our minds before having sufficient sight to realize that we are all One? Is it required that we all face the threat of death before we can be galvanized to find a new way to live?"

Above quote taken from the book Conversations with God, page 235 by the author Neale Donald Walsch

Humans often wait for disasters before changing their ways because when a crises does happen it makes the consequences of their actions immediate and undeniable. This becomes a powerful wake-up call that forces us to re-evaluate and prompt necessary changes in behavior, policies, and being better prepared. Unfortunately, many people find it difficult to comprehend long-term, abstract threats, so it often takes a tangible crisis to spur significant change.

Disasters whether they are man-made or natural in form need our attention. We as human beings often squabble over which action to take because we are educated from different sides of the spectrum like for instance left or right view in politics. Finding the middle ground is the best way to resolve any issues we have in this world. I am not saying getting to the middle of any issue is not easy but it can definitely get us closer to harmony.
