Brain Quote of the Week

Photo by Nat Plastino  Check out my podcast https://wisemindsetguy.podbean.com/ I got to spend some time last year at a silent meditation retreat hosted by Andy James who also runs one of the largest Tai Chi and meditation teaching organizations in Toronto, Canada. I was fortunate enough to read his book which is the focus of today's words of wisdom. "In the long run, we cannot avoid dealing with ourselves. Sooner or later, in spite of our ego's desire to feel in control, life's painful lessons will bring us all back to the need for the resolution of our conflicts, to the need for real change. Sooner resolution is better than later, because the destructive energies inside us accumulate. If they reach the point of explosion or disintegration, it may be too late. The conflict and pain are already there. Meditation does not create them but only brings them to consciousness so...

Neuro Linguistic Programming

Photo by Alan de la Cruz   What is NLP? This is a topic I read about recently in a book from Tony Robbins and it is a method I had not been familiar with until now. Neuro Linguistic Programming or NLP for short is related to how we view our lives and how what we experience can be completely different to the reality of someone else's lens. I did a previous blog about projection from our own lens but this will focus more on NLPs.  The way we experience reality goes into a continuous loop throughout our lives and becomes organized into our own version of what we think and feel. Whenever we process information about any subject that we are learning it goes through a process of filters which we create an opinion based on our thoughts, beliefs and values. Two people can look at the ...

Brain Quote of the Week

Photo by Nat Plastino Check out my podcast  👇 https://wisemindsetguy.podbean.com/ Why, indeed, is it necessary to summon trouble-which must be endured soon enough when it has once arrived-or to anticipate trouble and ruin the present through fear of the future? It is indeed foolish to be unhappy now because you may be unhappy at some future time. But I shall conduct you to peace of mind by another route: if you would put off all worry, assume that what you fear may happen will certainly happen in any event; whatever the trouble may be, measure it in your own mind, and estimate the amount of your fear. You will thus understand that what you fear is either insignificant or short-lived. Above referenced from the book  Letters From a Stoic by Seneca . Ch.4 pages 139-140 What makes this statement ring true is that we all fear many things in life, especially death as referred by Seneca above. We worry instead of being in the present moment. Do not spend so much time plannin...

The Spotlight Effect

Photo by Jayy Torres We at some point have had the idea that others hold certain opinions about us. We sit and ponder what people think of us when we are not around or even when we are present. We start to think: Are they judging me? Are they making fun of me? If I truly express myself, what will others think of that? There's a lot of fear there which stems from past experiences. I notice this in my kids' behaviour when they attend school and wonder how their other classmates view them. But with this fear one thing is for certain, we are not truly being ourselves. We tend to overthink or get nervous about how the world views us so we respond detracting back into our metaphoric shell. Breaking through and coming out of our s...

Brain Quote of the Day

I read this in a book once which changed my perception profoundly " If I had a Million Dollars, I would be Happy" " I have visited many men in mental institutions who were millionaires, but they insisted they were penniless and destitute. They were incarcerated because of psychotic, paranoic, and manic-depressive tendencies. Wealth in and of itself will not make you happy. On the other hand, it is not a deterrent to happiness. Today, there are many people trying to happiness through the purchase of radios, television sets, automobiles, a home in the country, a private yacht, and a swimming pool, but happiness cannot be purchased or procured in that way.     The kingdom of happiness is in your thought and feeling. Too many people have the idea that it takes something artificial to produce happiness.      The truth is that happiness is a mental and spiritual state.  Your strength, joy, and happiness consist in finding out the law of divine order and ri...
